MORE and more of us are turning to our computers in pursuit of a man – a recent survey found you’re more likely to bag a fella in cyberspace than at a party or on holiday.
But before you log onto
www.sunsingles.co.uk and find your dream date, there are a few things that every cyber-savvy woman needs to know.
Sarah Beeny, the no-nonsense C4 property presenter and founder of mysinglefriend.com, gives us her top 12 online dating dos and donts.
THE ONLINE DATING GAME
DO make your online profile stand out – a funny profile works best every time.
DO use an honest and useful picture in your profile (a clear and close- up shot of your smiley face will work better than a photo of you windsurfing back in 89!).
DON’T wait for someone else to make a move. It’s the 21st Century, get in there!
DON’T feel snubbed if someone doesn’t bite, there are plenty more fish in the sea.
DON’T be dishonest – you’ll waste your own time, and get found out anyway.
DON’T meet at the restaurant or bar you are planning to go to. Instead meet five minutes down the road, take that time to walk and talk (get rid of the small talk!) so that you arrive together at your venue feeling a bit more relaxed.
SAFE DATING
DO always let someone know who, when and where you are meeting, and let them know when you are on your way home too.
DO always meet in a public place with people around you.
DO go with your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable, make a polite exit. If you are having a whale of a time, squeeze in a cheeky kiss so they know you want to see them again.
DON’T ever meet at your house or workplace – keep your personal information personal, and take your own safety seriously.
DON’T rush in to love (or bed!) – your new crush is still almost a stranger to you.
