Doggy这是字是dog,也就是“狗”这个字的形容词。Bag大家都知道是“口袋”的意思。Doggy bag连在一起是指饭馆里把客人吃剩的菜放在盒子里，然后把它们都放在一个纸口袋里让客人带回家的那种口袋。那末，这和狗又有什么关系呢? Doggy bag这个说法的出现有它特殊的背景。以前美国人也不好意思把在饭馆吃剩的菜带回家，怕有失面子。所以有的人就会对服务员说：例句-1："Waiter, could you please wrap up the rest of this steak for me ? I'd like to take it home for my dog." 这个人对服务员说：“请你把这块牛排包起来，我想带回家给我的狗吃。” 尽管带回家的东西是给人吃的，但是doggy bag这个名称也就成了曰常用语了。现在，情况就不同了。在美国，把在饭馆里吃剩的东西带回家已经是习以为常的事了。饭馆还都备有这些让客人装剩菜的盒子。也没有人会因为要把剩菜带回家而感到不好意思。
