Signing off ... Bill Gates
MICROSOFT founder Bill Gates is retiring today in order to spend more time working with his charity.
He will be focusing on The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which he set up with his wife, Melinda.
CEO Steve Ballmer will now be in the Microsoft spotlight, although Gates will remain the company’s non-executive chairman.
Gates, who is now worth ?9billion, established Microsoft with Paul Allen in 1975 to write basic programs for early computers.
The pair won their big break five years later by landing a deal to provide operating systems to IBM.
